MBA Overview

PROGRAM LENGTH

  • 21 months
  • 64 quarter credit units including MBA capstone

Almost 100,000 working Americans will pursue MBAs this year.1 How will you stand out?

Research shows that social-emotional intelligence (SEI) makes the difference between average and star performers. Nine out of ten executives say that soft skills are as important as technical skills, and they’re struggling to hire people who have them. Bottom Line: SEI is the top skill set employers can’t find and most MBA programs ignore. We know business education can do better, so we designed the MBA at Wright Graduate University’s Lyons School of Transformational Business for a different kind of leader.

What if you could?

  • Study the inner game of leadership, developing yourself in order to bring out the best in others?
  • Lead through high-quality rapport and inspiration, tapping into your team’s genuine desire and capacity to contribute creative solutions?
  • Earn credit while you experiment, practice, and apply what you learn day-to-day and moment-by-moment in your business?

Curriculum Applied to You

From day one you’ll direct your learning toward your own most pressing challengesHow?

Wright Graduate University faculty have spent 30 years perfecting an applied educational format for this leadership development program.

In the personally-applied curriculum we call performative education, you’ll take on bite-size daily leadership and SEI challenges that you can implement anywhere, in any career and life path, from day one. You’ll also practice the critical management skills of coaching and leading groups, applying the skills you learn immediately.

Education Your Way: Online, On Campus, or Both

At times in your education you may want in-person community, and at other times you want to learn in your own space. That’s why we invested in technology to create a seamless hybrid learning experience for our students in all programs. You get to choose whether you want to learn fully online or meet your cohort and faculty in person.

Experience the freedom to have your curriculum adapted to your life rather than you having to adapt to the curriculum.

Learn Business by Doing Business

You wouldn’t learn a musical instrument or a sport by reading about it – you’d play. The same goes for a business leadership development program: you learn by doing business.

Chances are that if you’re thinking of undertaking an MBA, you’re already doing business - leading, coaching, selling, measuring, planning, monitoring, holding others accountable for results, and so on.

Imagine an MBA program where you earn credit for consciously applying your studies to what you are already doing, rather than contrived group work, far-off case studies, or anything other than directly impacting your life and business where you are.

Our MBA faculty are player-coaches who will give you feedback from the perspective they’ve honed on the playing field themselves.

Meet & Exceed the Demands of Today’s Business World

Forget the idea that a jack of all trades is master of none. Today’s workplace demands that you constantly learn, grow, and adapt to an ever-changing environment

That is why we take a transdisciplinary approach – diving deep into business, philosophy, psychology, educational methodology, and neuroscience to develop leaders who win the hearts and minds of those they lead.

History

Wright Graduate University and the Wright Foundation for the Realization of Human Potential (of which the University is a division) have a long track record of equipping students for success in business.

In 2018, a graduate of the Wright leadership and sales programs and board member of the Foundation, Rich Lyons, sold his nationally renowned, “Inc. 1000” recognized e-commerce firm to global leader CapGemini. As a graduate of Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management, Rich said that in his non-credit leadership education at Wright, he had learned more that impacted his success day-to-day in business than he had in his MBA. He had also witnessed first-hand the transformation that his wife, Dr. Gertrude Lyons, had experienced while pursuing her Ed.D. at Wright Graduate University. As Rich looked at his legacy following the sale of his business, he began discussing with University founders the possibility of providing a significant gift to establish a transformational MBA program at Wright Graduate University.

With the University’s commitment to applied scholarship, its faculty of seasoned entrepreneurs and executives, and its belief that business acumen is best developed while doing business, Wright launched its vision of bringing transformational education approach to an MBA program, making its unique leadership approach more available to professionals for whom the MBA is “the coin of the realm” for career advancement.

WGU, and Rich, saw the need for business to adapt and innovate to develop the potential of individuals leading and managing their business’s greatest asset, its people, for many of whom a paycheck is no longer enough. To achieve long-lasting results, the transformational businesses must win the hearts and minds of those they employ.

The Lyons School of Transformational Business at Wright Graduate University designed its Master of Business Administration (MBA) for students who know that being their best self is the surest way to build a great career. After a three-year process of research, development, and applications, the vision for the MBA at the Lyons School of Transformational Business was brought to life when it received DEAC (accreditor) approval on July 27, 2021. The first cohort enrolled October 28, 2021.

What is the mission of the MBA Program at Wright Graduate University?

"Its so exciting to talk about the MBA Program at Wright. I started off my career as an engineer after I went to University of Michigan. Then I got MBA at Kellogg, which was the #1 MBA in the world at that time. When I look at what I learned at Wright - Social Emotional Intelligence (SEI) and Transformational Leadership - that has been essential to my personal growth journey and establishing my company. With the help of Wright's education, I created a company with heart, culture, and a place that people wanted to be - including myself. I didn't learn that in a prestige MBA program.

When we established the Lyons School of Transformational Business, we wanted to teach business a different way - with a heart. Of course you still need to learn fundamental business concepts, but not all business schools teach you SEI, selling authentically, connecting with others, and leading transformationally. They don't teach you to really understand and run a business. Here, we do."

- Rich Lyons, Founder, Lyons School of Transformational Business

Jennifer Masi Master of Arts Graduate, 2018

Wright Graduate University has enhanced my life in ways I never thought possible. The yearning-based learning methodology has allowed me to learn more about myself and how I operate in different environments. I am a mother of two young girls, I work full-time, and I am a business partner. I, regrettably, waited two years before choosing to sign up for the master’s program thinking I needed to change my circumstances to open space for education. Let me ensure you, it will not detract from but only enhance your current life.

Rosenda González Master of Arts Graduate, 2022

What I discovered at Wright Graduate University was a dimension of richness of human interaction which I had never experienced. My relationship with my clients and coworkers became enhanced by what I was learning. I could see people’s strengths and weaknesses more clearly and support them better. I had more grace for my own struggles as I learned more about what made me tick. I have never been more connected to myself and others.

Wright Graduate University is the most unique education I have ever experienced. In my second year of studies, I was single and living by myself; however, I barely felt lonely because I was getting so much connection, support, and nourishment from my Wright Graduate University education. Now, the person who didn’t want to be a coach, who didn’t want to be a leader, wants to be a coach and a leader who can bring what I’ve been learning to people in Japan.

I have been integrating my academic research and personal development directly into my role. I’ve been able to combine my leadership with my coursework by bringing personalized examples into my assignments. Between the WGU faculty and my student cohort, I’ve received critical feedback that I’ve taken directly into my company - positively impacting myself and my team in the process.
